…. Right on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol – a highlight for the whole family – and just a few minutes from us in Füssen!
Located in a picturesque position on the blue River Lech, formerly the border crossing between Germany and Austria, the Ziegelwies Forest Centre provides a chance to experience nature in the flesh. The Treetop Trail (480 m long) takes visitors into the fascinating world of treetops. An altitude of up to 21 m provides fantastic views of the landscape of the River Lech and of the Bavarian and Tyrolean mountains.
Exploring the paths around the forest between the River Lech and the steep slopes of the Allgäu mountain forest is another highlight. The mountain forest path (around 1.7 km) and the riverside forest path (around 1.5 km) use a playful approach to explain the way in which forests protect us. There is plenty of interesting information to read about how animals and plants live there. You can find out how far deer, grasshoppers, etc. can leap, or have a go on the monkey swing. In addition to several play areas, the riverside forest path also provides information about the wide range of methods of crossing from one bank of a river to the other and why the River Lech is such a beautiful turquoise colour.
In addition to the adventure paths, the Forest Centre offers an exhibition about bees, the mountain forest and geology. The pavilion provides an insight into the wide-ranging uses of timber.
