Art at the AMERON Hamburg Hotel Speicherstadt
The AMERON Hamburg Hotel Speicherstadt is much more than just a place to arrive and stay – it is a house that breathes history while bringing art to life. Behind the historic brick façades of the UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt, Hanseatic heritage, modern hospitality, and selected works by international artists come together.
Some of these artworks were created especially for our hotel, while others originate from renowned collections, giving each room its own unique atmosphere. Each piece tells its own story – from love and longing to harbor impressions and humorous or whimsical observations of everyday life.
Below, we present a small selection of artworks and historical highlights that can be seen in our hotel:
“The Kiss” – Mural by Henriette Gruber
The mural “The Kiss” in the foyer is a free adaptation of the famous photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt. It is an ode to peace and the liberation from suffering and fear after the devastating war years of the 1940s. In a single passionate kiss, the happiness of returning home safely is captured. The artwork touches and fascinates with its emotional depth, reminding us of the power of hope, love, and trust – values that sailors once wore as tattoos when facing months at sea. The images in the Kaffeebörse build on this motif, transforming the tender kiss into pure zest for life.
“Longing – Searching for the Unknown” by Silvia Foz
The works of photographer Silvia Foz are centered around the yearning gaze into the distance, searching for the unknown and exotic. She finds inspiration in everyday life, giving seemingly banal moments, textures, and figures new significance. Her photographs act as a personal diary, expressing her emotions and way of life. The images invite you to immerse yourself in other worlds and to be guided by your own longing and curiosity – an invitation to discover the unknown and be enchanted by it.
Speicherstadt Warehouse Floors and Historic Trading
The Speicherstadt is the heart of Hamburg’s World Heritage and impressively tells the story of international trade. The historic warehouse floors, once home to exotic goods such as coffee, tea, and spices, still convey the atmosphere of bygone times. Massive wooden beams, high ceilings, and the characteristic brickwork make every tour a journey through time.
The historic trading hall, once the center of the coffee trade, impresses with its magnificent motifs and offers a fascinating insight into the era of flourishing commerce. Today, the trading hall is used as an exceptional event location and is available for events, weddings, conferences, or exclusive receptions. Authentic photographs from this period underscore the unique atmosphere and bring history to life.
